Dismas House New Mexico and Men’s Wearhouse (http://www.menswearhouse.com), announce their partnership in a nationwide campaign to provide suits to transitioning men. Dismas House received 58 items to give to the men living at Dismas House and working hard on their transition back into society from prison or jail. The job market has been a challenging place for the past few years, and no one knows that like ex-offenders. Many men just getting out of prison or jail can’t find work. They don’t have access to a professional wardrobe and they don’t have the interview skills required by today’s standards. These suits, along with Dismas House’s supportive services, will give these men a new look and a new outlook that will make them feel confident and ready to walk into a job interview.
The Men’s Wearhouse National Suit Drive aimed to collect 110,000 suits from June 27 – July 31. The final count was 130,171 suits, blasting their goal out of the water. A few celebrities, including Albuquerque’s own Neil Patrick Harris, donated their own professional attire for this great cause.
“The suits represent so much more than just a nice outfit, they show these guys that there are people out there who think they deserve a second chance,” said Carly, Development Associate, “and it takes them one step closer to transitioning successfully back into society.”
